While attacks in Paris have brought a more cautious approach, Tima Kurdi is hopeful the new Canadian government will bring change for some refugees asking for asylum.

Haveen Kurdi, 16, says she is excited to be in Canada.
Relatives of a Syrian boy whose lifeless body washed up on a Turkish beach landed in Vancouver on Monday.
Mohammed Kurdi, his wife, and their five children arrived in Canada as refugees on Monday.
Mohammed said he has very intention to stay in Canada, where he will start a new life for his family.
Speaking through his sister, who translated from Arabic, Mohammed Kurdi thanked Canadians and their government for making his dreams come true.
“I want the world to remember that picture”, Tima Kurdi told the Canadian Press in the days leading up to her family’s arrival.
The tearful gathering at the Vancouver International Airport didn’t include Alan’s father Abdullah, who’s Tima’s brother.
The Kurdi family had fled from their hometown of Kobane in Syria, and were trying to leave Turkey to go to Canada. His youngest son was born in July – he did not meet his newest child until this past weekend in Frankfurt, before leaving for Vancouver.
“It was a feeling he can not express”.
Kurdi’s other brother, Abdullah, was not so lucky.
She added: “Thank you Canadian people”.
“It’s always unfortunate that it takes tragedy to mobilize the global community, but certainly in this case, that’s what happened”, he said. “With the help of my brothers and the family, we’ll all get them on their feet and show them around”.
It’s been nearly four months since Tima Kurdi’s family tried to seek refuge in Canada.
In Canada, the newly-elected Liberal government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau campaigned on the promise to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of February. The federal website that updates progress listed 2,413 refugees as having arrived in Canada by December 26.
In the USA, more than 30 states have vowed to block any efforts by the government of Barack Obama to settle the 10,000 refugees he has said he will welcome. “Please don’t close the door in their face”.
Rehana, Aylan and Galip were among the 12 people who drowned after two boats carrying 22 people capsized.
Fatima Kurdi, aunt of Syrian refugees that drowned speaks to reporters outside her home in Coquitlam, BC.

She hopes their brother Abdullah, who left Turkey after his family’s deaths and now lives in Kurdistan, will eventually join them.
