EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ-The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams from local families, businesses, schools, places of worship, and the community as a whole to participate in the annual Relay For Life of East Brunswick on June 11, 2016 at Heavenly Farms, 440 Dunhams Corner Rd., East Brunswick, NJ.
Ms Jones said she expected the final tally of money raised by the 68 participating teams to be well over $100,000.
Beyond the attending athletes are also the participants who will help facilitate the event. Bringing HOPE and light (and this year COLOR!) to the darkness of cancer. “We’re also going to spruce up the ceremonies, and have more entertainment”.
The Opening Ceremony begins at 12 Noon and shortly thereafter a celebratory cancer survivors lap will begin.
“It is so humbling to look out over everybody and see all the survivors sitting out here, and their caregivers”, said Christi Matthews, a committee member and organizer for the dinner.
Eichlersmith stated that he meant to keep HU Radio involved in Relay for Life in the coming years.
For a little “fun ” draising, there will also be a Womanless Beauty Pageant at 10 p.m. and the victor will be crowned Miss North Baldwin Relay and Miss Relay Diva.
At Relay, numerous teams of people (no matter how big or small) walk around a track in memory of a loved one lost to cancer, in honor of someone fighting cancer, and in recognition of a cancer survivor.
“It’s a very moving experience”, she said. The vast majority of the money raised supports research to find a cure for this terrible disease.
“I sent out a group chat to my friends but didn’t get too many responses”, Wendland said. Billy was diagnosed with cancer in 2000 and fought a second round of the disease in 2012. “We’re really there for each other because pretty much everyone’s been touched by cancer in some way”.
The NW Relay For Life at Penguin and Circular Head Relay For Life raised more than $310,000 for Cancer Council Tasmania programs. After the survivors completed the first lap the K-Kids handed out stuffed animals.
