Jio didn’t immediately respond to emailed questions for comment.

While having a 4G-enabled smartphone is enough, Jio requires a VoLTE-supported phone to make HD voice and video calls. Users can take advantage of unlimited data, voice and SMS benefits throughout this year and choose suitable plans starting at Rs. 149 per month starting next year.

Ever since we’ve been hearing about the Jio network and the network services, one of the questions that most of the users have in mind is whether they can use the Mobile Number Portability option to switch to Jio network on the same phone number that they have on Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Tata Docomo or any other network.

“The biggest draw of Jio’s 4G SIM is free mobile internet till December 31”, said a Jio customer in Kolkata. Rather, get a SIM on the Jio Welcome Offer that is now going on, and only after you feel satisfied with the network coverage and speeds, you should choose to switch to the Jio network. However, leading operators are calling up their high value customers who are trying to port to Jio, which begins its service from Monday, to persuade them not to change. Some stores even issued tokens to angry customers, promising delivery as late as October 15.

So, if you have an Aadhaar card, we recommend carrying that for the eKYC process as it greatly simplifies the activation process. Regardless of initial teething troubles, Morgan Stanley expects the launch offer to help Jio amass a sizeable base of revenue-paying subscribers.

Ambani has also set an ambitious target for the Reliance Jio team to acquire 100 million customers in the shortest possible time.

ARPU is average revenue per user.

As per BSNL’s claim, the lowest per GB data download cost plan under broadband services in India is offered by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. Experts believe the incumbents will also need to lower data rates, by increasing usage limits.

This is critical since almost 30 per cent of customers generate 70 per cent of revenue for the incumbents and they are the users that will need to be ring-fenced from moving to Jio.
