Analysts expect The Force Awakens to make about $200m in the United States and Canada over its opening weekend, a total that could challenge the record Jurassic World set earlier this year.

Midnight screenings alone accounted for £2.4 million of the day’s box office smashing all previous records.

When it comes to the original Star Wars trilogy, the force is definitely with University of Victoria PhD candidate David Christopher. Doing so changes most of Google’s products, affecting everything from Gmail’s loading bar to the look of Google calendar.

Analysts predict that the seventh instalment of the iconic space saga, which cost Disney an estimated $200 million to produce, could score the biggest opening weekend ever and could even become the biggest film of all time.

The latest instalment in the dinosaur theme park franchise made nearly $209m in its first three days on North American release in June. It’s Star Wars, after all.

The Force Awakens scored a 95% positive rating on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, scoring an average of 8.2 out of 10 in more than 250 reviews. There is a screening of “Star Wars” for Gold Star families and children coming up. Disney said that 47 percent of the box office came from 3-D showings and $5.7 million from Imax screens.
