Remember the original Nintendo? A mini version’s coming out

Nintendo has confirmed new details on its NES mini console announced yesterday – namely that it won’t connect to the internet, so will only play its starting line-up of 30 games. It’s for people who don’t care that you can already play this stuff a zillion other ways, who want the allure of a baby-NES perched in their entertainment centers like an iconic artifact you’d dangle from a rearview mirror. Now, lets look at the new iteration of the NES which will by default come (arguably) the 30 best games of the NES era.

Gamers will also have the option of buying a separate control pad for only $9.99.

Nintendo’s legendary home console NES will be back this holiday, and will plug directly into your high-definition TV using and HDMI cable!

Nintendo is expected to release a new games console next year but until then, the company is keen to take us on a history lesson.

The NES Classic Edition comes with 30 of Nintendo’s biggest titles of yesteryear, such as the first three Super Mario Bros. games, the first two Legend of Zelda titles, Mega Man 2, Metroid, Excite Bike and even the game which nearly single-handedly redefined the role-playing genre, the very first Final Fantasy.

“We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo’s original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place”, explained Reggie Fils-Aimé, president and COO of Nintendo’s American arm, in a press release. Although the console comes with a single controller, extra NES Classic Edition controllers can be purchased for $10 each.

According to TheVerge, the NES Classic Edition will be available on November 11th for $59.99.
