The district, which runs along Calhoun Street between Meeting and Concord, honors the nine people killed in the June 17 church shooting massacre, also paying tribute to five others who survived.

The money was donated by people in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and four foreign nations, the mayor said.
About $300,000 has been paid for funerals and burial expenses, city officials said.
Topics to be covered include identifying an active shooter and pre-incident behavioral indicators; dealing with the national news; supporting victims, including families and the officers involved; crisis management; and use of IEDs by active shooters.
The city of Charleston, S.C., will distribute $2.5 million of the memorial fund for the parishioners affected by the fatal June shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church, Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. announced Thursday.
Survivors Felicia Sanders and Polly Sheppard, as well as members of the victims’ families will be in attendance.
The South Carolina Stingrays will host a special Opening Night this season where they will honor and remember the victims, survivors, and families of the Emanuel AME Church shooting by wearing “Charleston Strong” themed jerseys that will be auctioned off with the proceeds to benefit the children of the families. The fund will continue to accept donations until the end of the year.
City councilman William Dudley Gregorie, also a member of the church, brought the idea before city council, who offered its support with a unanimous vote.

Individual tickets for Mother Emanuel AME Church Night go on sale on Monday, September 28 at 10 a.m.to the general public.
