“We can never re-pay them but we can thank them so every time you see a veteran and don’t just wait until veterans day but just thank them for their service to our country”, says Gov. Edwards.
This event has been going on for over a century. The Second District congressman took the occasion to say it was fitting to remember those who paid the ultimate price, and expressed gratitude for that sacrifice. The American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans Association will participate.
Although Memorial Day is a chance to remember those who have passed away, it is also a chance for a lot of the veterans in the crowd to come together and share stories.
■ At the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial, 340 Highway 340 in Fruita, a motorcycle club made up of Vietnam War veterans will dedicate a memorial bench.
“Most of the younger teenage group and et cetera don’t really think about veterans unless they have somebody, immediate family that’s in the service”.
“It’s to honor my husband and his memory and all the soldiers who lost their lives and soldiers who are still losing their lives”, she said.
Stone and King both spoke on the sacrifice of America’s armed forces members, as well as the responsibility of today’s Americans to honor those sacrifices by holding tight to the values they died for.
Many of us either have family or friends who have served in the military or have served ourselves.
We honor their service and sacrifice – and that of all their fallen comrades. The Color Guard will be paying tribute to past veterans at Mt. Baker Cemetery at 11 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend. Many towns across the country, like Lambertville, hold parades.
