Remi Garde confident that ‘unfortunate’ Villa can move up the table

But his first job was to watch from the stands as his new side slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham, leaving them with only four points from 11 matches.

Remi Garde has revealed how his former mentor Gerard Houllier advised him to take up the vacant managerial role at Premier League strugglers Aston Villa.

These are dire times at Aston Villa, and the Villans’ welcoming of their new manager just proves it. The club’s media people clearly got confused and managed to spell their new manager’s name wrong.

“He told me: “Go on, it’s a hard situation now but it’s a big club with people who will work for you”.

“I hope we will improve, if I can get more from the players I think we will do it. Hopefully we can and improve the team”.

Top of the table Manchester City take on lowly Aston Vila, who now find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League.

“The spirit I saw on the field (at Tottenham) was quite encouraging for me”.

Lloris, however, believes they possess greater talent than they are given credit for, and said that Garde’s previous experience of English football from playing for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal in the 1990s, combined with the tactical knowledge he has seen for himself, will ultimately prove enough to rescue them.

“The team is a whole team, we need to be all together – for example they have to learn English quickly, because I don’t want anybody speaking French in the dressing room, for example, because it’s very important that we understand each other”. I’m really delighted in how it is going.

Fox added: “For the past year we have been working purposefully to transform the club in order to build a successful organisation that can compete and succeed in the Premier League”.

Then the Villa players fluffed their lines at White Hart Lane in their first opportunity to show the former France manager just what he is inheriting when he reports for first duty this morning. But though Spurs had a few nervy moments, a Kane goal in injury time secured a 3-1 win for the hosts. Play the kids on Thursday as we need to stuff Arsenal. I’m sure all the players will be thinking the same when the manager comes in. “The team is the whole team”.

He has failed to score this season and netted just six times previous year as Villa barely beat the drop.
