Renault Koleos SUV revealed, interior teased

According to reports, these South Korean Maxthons are likely to be engineered to take a third row of seats to help boost the big SUV’s appeal in markets like the United Kingdom where the Koleos sold poorly.

A brief statement issued by Paris to accompany the photo says: ‘Renault rounds off its high-end range with a brand new D-segment SUV, the new KOLEOS. So we can assume that practicality will be a strong point.

The first teaser video doesn’t reveal anything except the headlight cluster, with incorporated C-shaped LED DRLs that look similar to the ones of the new-gen Megane and Talisman, setting it apart from the smaller Kadjar, which has more conventional headlamps.

The new generation of Renault Koleos will share its platform with the Nissan X-trail, riding on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF platform. It measures 4,672mm in length and 1,843mm in width while it will sit on the same wheelbase as seen on X-Trail measuring 2,705mm. This was confirmed by the vehicle maker’s CEO, Thierry Bollore, who previously mentioned that a seven seat model “would be possible” only at a later stage.

The name Maxthon was circulated alongside early sightings of the Koleos, but Renault’s continued use of the moniker elsewhere made the adoption of a new name unlikely. “That doesn’t mean it will never happen, but for the moment it won’t have [seven seats]”.

So far, the only official comment on the new auto we’ve seen states that the Koleos will have the “refinement and features associated with large saloon cars” and “record room for passengers”.
