The Renault Kwid 1.0 was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 and as the name suggests, is powered by a new 1.0-litre engine.

Now Renault has chose to show some love to the Kwid fans by releasing a pair of prototype for the upcoming Auto Expo. It has a set of 18-inch alloy wheels with low-profile tires and has been painted in a blue metallic hue that has been granted some red accents and a blacked out roof.

With monster brake calipers, “honed aerodynamics”, and front and rear spoilers and a rear diffuser that “guarantee outstanding handling”, the Kwid Racer certainly looks fast.

The interior cabin has been transformed into a two-seater as the rear bench was removed to make room for a roll cage.

These concept cars have been largely designed and developed by Renault’s design studios in Mumbai and Chennai and underscore Renault’s commitment to the Indian market. Besides being viable, the transmission is frugal in monetary terms and comes paired to the 1.5-litre diesel motor.

Laurens Van Den Acker, senior vice-president, Corporate Design, who was present at the unveil, said: “At first glance, the Renault Kwid blends an emotional design with the need for reassurance expressed by customers”. The front end is distinctive and immediately recognisable as a Renault. This clutch free driving experience combines the fuel economy and performance of a manual transmission with the convenience of automated gear shifting.

Based on Renault-Nissan’s all-new Common Module Family (CMF), and priced from just $7000 in India, the new budget hatch has already become top ten best seller. It has generated unprecedented success in its category and has won the hearts of customers’ and automotive experts alike.

Aside from the two exhibits, Renault also launched the 1.0-liter SCe engine in New Delhi, along with an automated manual gearbox, the Easy-R, both destined for the Kwid model.
