A Tesla Model X seemingly prepped for delivery is spied on public roads. Once the vehicle arrives at dealerships, it is expected that Audi will call the SUV the Q6 e-tron quattro.
Audi also recently announced pricing for its 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron, a Chevy Volt-type hybrid that combines battery and gas power.
Forbes reports that the E-tron Quattro will use the expertise gained in the development of the forthcoming all-electric two-seat sports vehicle, the R8 e-tron. However, Audi’s new project seems geared more for North America, where SUV sales continue to rise. On a full charge, the zero emission crossover is claimed to have a range of over 500 km (310 miles).
The 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show will host the worldwide debut of the Audi e-tron Quattro Concept, an all-electric SUV.
Automakers have watched Tesla carve out a luxury electric auto niche and are preparing their own entries, said Thilo Koslowski, vice president and automotive practice leader at information-technology researcher Gartner Inc.
The display auto comes with three electric motors and includes movable components at the front, side and rear for improved aerodynamics and extended driving range. All the same, it hopes that, should all go well, the ride will enter production sometime in 2018.

These lithium-ion batteries will be positioned below the passenger compartment, in between the front and rear axles, which will help lower the center of gravity and provide better balance. The cabin of the Audi e-tron quattro concept tapers strongly toward the rear end, approaching the idealized shape of an aerodynamically optimized droplet. LG Chem and Samsung SDI will provide the German automaker with powerful cell modules to be used in its SUV.
