Then, in 1999 came the news that rocked their world – Rene was diagnosed with throat cancer, after less than five years of marriage. “I’ll say, ‘You’re scared?”
On Thursday (local time) the coroner reported Angelil had died at home from natural causes.
Barry Garber, who helped Montreal become a music mecca, was there in the early years with Celine and Rene. He also has three grown up children from a previous relationship. Celine takes two years off to be with her husband as he undergoes two operations and six weeks of radiation treatment.
Angelil was born in Montreal on January 16, 1942, to a Syrian father and a Quebecois mother. They married when she was 26-years-old in a lavish wedding. “And René says to me, ‘I want to die in your arms.’ Okay, fine, I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms”, the singer shared.
