While there had been speculation that the recent changes to Zellweger’s appearance might distract movie-goers, the photo makes it clear that Bridget Jones (and Zellweger) is back to her old self.

The actress was seen sporting a false baby bump as she shot scenes outside a supermarket in Woolwich in London on Wednesday (7 October).

New pictures have emerged showing Renee Zellweger reprising her much-loved character for the new film, Bridget Jones’s Baby.

The film will be directed by Sharon Maguire, who made the first film in the series, and will follow our favourite publishing executive as she enters her 40s.

During filming, her rotund tummy peeped beneath an open fur jacket and was further emphasised by the ultimate slimming taboo, horizontal stripes. Working Title is hoping that a new generation of viewers will be just as smitten with Jones: the first two films in the franchise each grossed more than $250 million worldwide, from budgets that topped out at a mere $40 million. Colin Firth is said to comeback as Bridget’s dashing husband Mark but Hugh Grant, who played Daniel Cleaver, Bridget’s ex-boyfriend and notorious playboy, will be giving the movie a pass. And this time there’s a baby on board.

The rest of the film’s plot is now under wraps, but it’s already been confirmed it will not be based on author Helen Fielding’s third novel.
