It’s not until trial that a defendant can present a defense. Speculation in the media and Washington has been Person A is Brown. On Thursday, Brown was in her Capitol Hill office because the House was in session.
Federal prosecutors may have cleared a path Thursday for Al Lawson’s quest for a Congressional seat.
“If Brown is only winning Jacksonville and losing badly in the west, it’s hard to see her winning the district”, said Isbell.
“What the community is praying for”, she answered.
“Corrupt public officials undermine the integrity of our government and violate the public’s trust”, said Michelle S. Klimt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division.
Brown was first elected to Congress in 1992. Brown has been involved with the group’s leadership and at one time appeared in several photos on its website.
Carla Wiley, one of the people connected to One Door for Education, pleaded guilty in March to federal charges. Wiley transferred thousands of dollars to herself; the money was also used to fund parties, an National Football League luxury box, and other extravagances in Washington. Records show Brown hosted a tournament for the group’s benefit that month at the same Jacksonville-area golf course.
It is suspected that the public official was Brown.
“I’m sad, praying”, she said to a reporter as she walked.
Wiley promised cooperation with federal authorities as part of the plea deal.
The questions started in January, when she was served a federal subpoena.
The House Ethics Committee was also looking into Brown, but was told by the Justice Department to hold off on its investigation.
The panel was charged with looking into allegations that Brown may have improperly solicited charitable donations, used campaign money for personal use and failed to comply with tax laws.
“They’re all together. The goal is to get rid of Corrine Brown”, she said. “If the scandal harms her even a bit in Duval, peeling off a few thousand voters, while Lawson consolidates the West, then Brown can not win the district”.
