Philadelphia’s protests come as Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned under pressure as Democratic Party chairwoman, a stunning leadership shakeup as party officials gather in Philadelphia to nominate Clinton.

The resignation of Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was the talk of the town Sunday, ahead of the Democratic National Convention this week.
“I want us to be united after watching the RNC last week”, said Congressman Gene Green. At the climate change rally organized by Fox and some allies – including Tom Steyer’s NextGen Climate, which signed up supporters at each park entrance – the end of Wasserman Schultz’s five-year tenure was just one more cause to be cynical.
“Her leadership of the DNC has meant that we had someone who brought Democrats together not just for my re-election campaign, but for accomplishing the shared goals we have had for our country”, he said.
Elected to the House of Representatives in 2004, Wasserman Schultz, 49, began her tenure as head of the DNC in 2011.
She is also expected to speak at some point during the convention.
After the unity commission agreement, Sanders supporters seeking to pass amendments to abolish or curtail superdelegates opted against pursuing convention floor fights on the issue.
Wasserman Schultz, in a statement, said she wanted to focus on her congressional seat in South Florida, where she is facing a robust primary challenge by a Sanders backer, law professor Tim Canova. He felt like the DNC was favoring Hillary (Clinton). She is no stranger to the big stage, having served as Secretary of State under the Obama administration and various terms as senator of NY as well as being the first lady to ex-President Bill Clinton. His task got harder with recent revelations showing national Democrats putting their thumbs on the scale for Clinton during the primary – bolstering claims that Sanders was treated unfairly. “It’s disheartening, that top officials in the DNC would dismiss the work of Bernie Sanders’ supporters in such a disrespectful way”.

Motecuzoma Sanchez and Tejpaul Singh say they’re attending the Democratic National Convention to try to keep Hillary Clinton from getting the party’s nomination. A bitter primary campaign between Clinton and Sanders has already caused concern among many Democratic-leaning voters caught between the markedly different agendas of both candidates.
