Rep. Jenkins: United States needs to halt acceptance of Syrian, Iraqi refugees
In that call, one of the officials said they regularly interact with lawmakers and state and local leaders to answer questions and clear up misconceptions about the program. “The day America says, ‘Close the gates, build the wall, ‘ then I say take down the Statue of Liberty because you’ve gone to a different place”, he said.

On Monday, the State Department said it would not change its plan to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next year.
However, under federal law, state governors have little power to block their entry into the country or interfere with federal resettlement programs.
“If ISIS had hoped that their attacks in Paris would provoke the US and its allies into reacting with small minded panic, a few governors are helping them get their wish”, said Linda Hartke, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service President.
The Obama administration was responding to the fact that several dozen states, nearly all of them Republican-controlled, had announced their opposition to taking in refugees claiming security concerns after last Friday’s attacks in Paris that killed 129 people and wounded more than 350.
The White House says that of the 2,174 refugees who have been admitted to the USA since 2001, “not a single one has been arrested or deported on terrorism-related grounds”.
US President Barack Obama on Wednesday slammed USA domestic “hysteria” about the security risks posed by Syrian refugees, accusing his political foes of demonizing “widows and orphans”.
Obama administration officials have said Syrians seeking to enter the United States undergo the toughest security screening of any group.
It must be noted that Syrian refugees are fleeing the kind of barbarism that was on display in the Paris massacre. “We have these great organizations making sure that these refugees are helped to integrate into our society”.
Therefore, the state of IL will temporarily suspend accepting new Syrian refugees and consider all of our legal options pending a full review of our country’s acceptance and security processes by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Yang said it was this search for a better life that brought many of Central Wisconsin’s Hmong population from Laos as they escaped communist rule. Lawrence Benito, executive director of the IL Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, says plans to move refugees to IL are continuing despite Rauner’s comments.
