POPE FRANCIS came to the U.S. Congress on Thursday and bluntly reminded the nation’s representatives and millions of Americans of a very essential truth about our country.
On September 24, about 40 faculty and students watched the live broadcast of the first-ever papal address to Congress in a small auditorium at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. Did he neglect to bring up any issues you would have liked him to address?
Shortly after his speech, Mayor Bill de Blasio, along with other 18 mayors across the country, sent a letter to the Obama administration – timed to the pope’s visit – asking them to accept additional Syrian crisis refugees beyond the 10,000 his administration has already agreed to accept.

In his hour-long speech, the pope touched on and alluded to several hot button topics, including same-sex marriage, the right to life and the abolition of the death penalty. “And it’s a good thing I didn’t”.
“It was an awesome day”, Tester, D-Mont., said after Francis gave his address.
“I would like to express my esteem and gratitude to the religious women of the United States“, Francis said in an evening prayer service at New York’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral, one of the highest-profile churches in the United States. “I’ve been praying about this and talking to my coach and talking to all my teachers”. “Let us help others to grow, as we would like to be helped ourselves”. Jeb Bush, a Catholic who disagrees with the pope on issues like climate change and capitalism, said he liked how the pope urged lawmakers to work together for the greater good.
“We can’t keep consuming scarce resources, polluting our atmosphere, dumping our trash and paving over our wilderness without expecting consequences”, Grijalva said in a statement.
Trump also made note of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants in the US, and warned that they are taking jobs away from Americans.

Martin said on Twitter that Day was an “apostle of the poor” and Merton an “apostle of dialogue”, adding of the pope’s decision to highlight them: “Amen”.
