Report: Knicks Contacted Frank Vogel About Head Coaching Job
The New York Knicks have reportedly reached out to the agent of the former Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel to size up the interest of the 2014 NBA All-Star Game bench boss in the team’s vacant coaching post.

Bird said his new coach will need to “have a rapport with the players and hold them accountable”.
Vogel is likely going to be very interested in taking the Knicks’ job.
Vogel went 250-181 as coach of the Pacers, who made the Eastern Conference Finals in back to back years in 2012-13 and 2013-14, falling to the Miami Heat both times.
When the Kings began this coaching search, I don’t think anybody expected Frank Vogel to be available before the Kings made a decision to pick their new coach, but now he is.
But all of that depends on if the Pacers and Larry Bird bring Vogel back or not and give him an extension first.
“I think the Knicks wanted to see where Frank’s head is at”, the source said.
“My experience has been, good coaches leave after three years”, Bird said. Vogel’s name has been linked to other jobs, most notably the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets.
“I think at times, players just don’t listen”. He led IN to the 2013 and 2014 Eastern Conference Finals, and helped the team finish IN the Top 5 IN scoring defense IN five consecutive seasons.
The team exec hasn’t provided any definite timeline for any change of roster, particularly on the coaching position, as he intends to meet up with Pacers owner Herb Simon before coming up with a decision on Vogel’s fate.
“From the standpoint of studying the National Basketball Association game, I was always a big fan of Phil Jackson and his approach”, Vogel told the Indianapolis publication Nuvo in 2013. His career coaching record is 232-185.
“It’s time for a new voice around here”, Bird began.
Anybody familiar with the situation will not be surprised by the announcement as Bird stated earlier this week that they were undecided on what the future was for Vogel in Indiana.
– Bird indicated that part of the voice losing impact is in motivating players to play at a higher level and holding them accountable.

“I would not do that to Kevin, to have him work for me”, Bird quipped.
