Report of shots fired at mall happened outside

Police in Charlotte responded to reports of shots fired at Northlake Mall on Monday.

A police news release says officers were unable to locate any victims or suspects when they arrived.

At approximately 3:14 p.m., officers were called to Northlake Mall Drive in reference to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service with no injuries.

Just 30 minutes earlier on Labor Day, shoppers in the mall were reporting they had been told to evacuate the mall or were locked up in stores inside it after reports of a possible shooting.

Police say a report of shots fired inside a North Carolina mall were actually noises heard outside the building. People also appeared to be leaving the mall in droves.

“Preliminary evidence gathered on scene indicates that a group of subjects who had a history of feuding encountered each other inside the mall and got into an altercation which led to Mr. Westbrook shooting a firearm”.
