Report Suggests 2017 iPhone Could Eliminate Home Button

In terms of hardware the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will come with a new faster Apple A10 processor and also more RAM. This will mark a departure from Apple’s “tick tock” cycle of completely overhauling the iPhone’s design every two years. The answer, one person at the meeting recalled, was that the new technology in the pipeline will take time to implement. The device will instead use a Lightning connector for headphones.

We’ve already seen rumors saying the familiar headphone jack is getting the ax, so that isn’t really big news.

The biggest planned change in this year’s phones is the removal of the headphone plug, which will make the phone thinner and improve its water resistance, said people with that matter. The report also reiterates earlier rumors that this year’s iPhone will forego the headphone jack in favor of using the lightning port for both charging and headphones.

And there are murmurings that next year, Apple’s revamped iPhone could be called a “10th anniversary” edition.

According to the source Showbox App, it has received a new image of what is said to be the final production model for the iPhone 7 Plus/Pro’s rear case.

The iPhone has arrived with improvements and new features these last few years but a major redesign could happen next year. Today ladies and gents we have a confirmed rumor, the dumbest of them all actually, the one we all hoped and prayed will never become fact: the iPhone 7 drops the headphone jack. The company has guided for total second-quarter revenue to be down 13% to 17% from the previous year.

The new iPhone coming out this fall is going to look a lot like the iPhones now on sale. I expect the A10 processor will be much faster and could have 20 percent higher performance and 40 percent less power consumption compared to the iPhone 6s.

But the report also believes the 2017 iPhone will be dramatically different, featuring an OLED display like the Apple Watch and embedding the Touch ID sensor in the display while losing the Home button…
