UIW officials said the campus was never officially locked down, instead students were encouraged to stay where they were until an all-clear was issued by police.

“We put out an alert”.

The first call came in around 5:40pm, “from a female student who reported an unknown male, wearing all black, packing a rifle”, UIW Police Chief Robert Chavez said.

“We haven’t been able to confirm that anybody was on campus”, Chavez said.

An image of a person with a firearm atop a building on the UIW campus briefly went viral on San Antonio social media.

“No suspect has been found to support the initial report”, the school said via Twitter. The lockdown was called off at about 7:50 p.m. No suspect was found to support the report.
