One person said an argument between two men in the food court led to at least four shots being fired.
Gunshots were fired inside a crowded mall in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon and there were no immediate reports of injuries, police said.
John Riggleman and Kristin Warring told The Associated Press that they were heading to a video game store when they heard shots coming from the mall’s food court.
A video shot inside the Crabtree Valley mall shows the panic, as people tried to get out of the mall as fast as they could.
Police said in a statement about two hours later that they’d found no one with gunshot wounds, nor had they arrested a suspect.
Deck-Brown said the investigation was continuing but left open the possibility that no actual shots were fired at all.
Police arrived on scene around 2:45 p.m. and evacuated and placed the building on lockdown.
Footage from a news helicopter showed shoppers filing out of the mall with their hands over their heads as police took control of the scene. However, they were not gunshot injuries; she and Wake County EMS Director Jeff Hammerstein says the patients appeared to have suffered minor injuries in the evacuation of the mall. When they finally were allowed to leave, they passed about 10 officers or SWAT team members moving the other way with guns drawn.
“At this time, we do not have anyone in custody”, Deck-Brown said. “And then there were more back toward the exit kind of telling people where to go”, Riggleman said.
“We have not actually determined that there was a shooter at this point”, Deck-Brown said.

Tony Rice, a contributor to WRAL.com, a local television station’s website, said he sheltered in place when people began screaming and running from the mall. Please see our terms of service for more information.
