Reports of gunshots in busy mall: chaos, people running

RALEIGH, North Carolina – Gunshots were fired at a mall in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Saturday but there were no immediate reports of injuries, a police dispatcher said.

The Raleigh Police Department issued a statement saying that officers responded to the mall about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday to reports of shots fired. Texted 911 at that point to let them know there were 30-40 people – about half were children. According to a post on the mall’s website, people can pick up items starting Sunday at noon in the Community Room beside HWY 55 near the food court.

Some shoppers who were near exits fled the mall when they heard the shots, using cell phone video cameras to record people leaving.

Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene after the shots were fired.

A mall in North Carolina has been shut down after as many as 10 gunshots were heard inside the shopping centre.

Multiple witnesses told local media they heard gunshots ring out in the mall’s food court. Nobody is now being let in or out of the mall at this time.

No suspects have been arrested.

Riggleman said they were inside the video game store for about a half-hour. “They had guns up, kind of covering us as we were running out”.

Another witness who owns a store in the mall says he saw two men arguing in the food court, and saw one pull out a gun. However, this is an ongoing investigation and as information becomes available, updates will be added.
