Hojbjerg’s agent Soren Lerby confirmed that negotiations between the clubs are ongoing in the Danish press, adding that more would be confirmed Sunday night and on Monday.
The details of the transfer have yet to be revealed, but it is believed Southampton will pay up to around £12m for Hojbjerg.
Hojbjerg is now set to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League, with Southampton reportedly paying £12.8m for the midfielder.
The midfielder clocked up 17 appearances for Munich before making 23 for Schalke.
He has spent the better part of the past two season on loan at FC Augsburg and Schalke 04, but may now have a new permanent home.
Højbjerg will become the Saints’ second signing this summer, following on after Nathan Redmond’s arrival from Norwich, and the first of the Claude Puel era.
Hojbjerg is already an established global with Denmark and has spent time on loan with Augsburg and Schalke in the Bundesliga, but was eager to find a permanent home in an interview with Danish newspaper BT, with a hat-tip to Bleacher Report.
And he spoke of his desire to leave the Bundesliga club in an interview with Danish newspaper BT: “I want to leave and find the right place for me”.
