Reports two dead in Sydney shooting

There are believed to be multiple victims of the incident.

Police are yet to confirm the deaths but have stated an operation is underway and asked the public to stay away from the area.

Fairfax Media has confirmed one of the people shot dead is not a sworn officer but a civilian employee of NSW Police who works in information technology.

Emergency services were called to the station in the Parramatta area of the city at around 4.30pm on Friday.

The Daily Telegraph reported police had warning of an impending attack through intelligence sources.

“We looked out the window, saw security guards and what appeared to be a plain clothes police officer with gun drawn pointing at the person that was now lying on the floor surrounded by a pool of blood”, he said.

Local resident Vijay Dantu, who lives opposite the police headquarters, recalls hearing gunshots just after 5:00pm (AEST).

Witness Edwin Almeida wrote on his Facebook page: ‘Four five shots fired by man outside our office and in front of NSW police head quarters.

Surrounding streets were blocked off and a police helicopter was observed hovering above.

“Then all of a sudden two more, two more shots came”.

“There were three shots… there I saw the man wielding a handgun, dressed in black robes”, he said.

Aerial images from Channel Seven news showed what appeared to be two bodies covered in white sheets outside the headquarters of New South Wales police.

‘I saw the guy dressed in black on the pavement with blood everywhere, ‘ he said.

Shopkeeper Sammy Shak heard “six shots at least” and ran outside on to Charles Street.

Police in body armour were seen patrolling the Parramatta CBD and police were guarding train stations.

The building is home to administrative and support teams, as well as the State Crime Command, which includes the Homicide, Squad, Middle Eastern, organised and drugs units.
