If you’re a standard hawkish conservative trying to decide between them and haven’t already been scared away from Rubio over immigration, the idea that Cruz is a few sort of Snowden sympathizer might help you decide.
But considering that he was, until recently, in favor of increased legal immigration, his plan is a huge improvement, and an important development. Finally, all this should show results in year-over-year declines in the illegal-immigrant population.
In the immigration debate, Americans hear a lot about racism and nativism.
Rubio has argued that any future stab at reform has to “modernize” legal immigration.
By contrast, Rubio’s 2013 immigration plan would have suppressed the public charge law.
“Hold DHS accountable to the American people”.
The economy needs both low-skill and high-skill workers. “Under no circumstances should legal immigration levels be adjusted upwards so long as work-force participation rates remain below historical levels”.
We’re not likely to get the same response from overly-educated and high-skilled immigrants who had their pick of countries that wanted them but wound up choosing the United States. Interestingly, Mr Cruz had backed quintupling the number of H-1B visas.
Paul’s speech in many ways wasn’t different than the one he delivered back in Sarasota this past winter, where he bashed Hillary Clinton on Benghazi, and criticized the U.S. State Department for what he says were misplaced priorities.
“I don’t want to see it included and I’ve been making my pitch for a couple weeks so we’ll see. As President, I will take immediate steps to pass legislation or a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship”.
Many opponents of broadening surveillance powers by the federal government anxious about the impact on the privacy of US citizens.

But he has now tied himself to the beliefs of a candidate who is intent on winning the GOP nomination on self-deportation – and exposed the truth behind the Marco-is-moderate myth. Rubio’s whole argument for his campaign is that he represents an alternative to the dogmatism that has left the GOP brand as tarnished as it’s been since Watergate.
