Mr Cruz scored big with an early attack on the CNBC moderators of the debate – a hit with the partisan audience of mostly Republican voters.

Conservative political expert Stan Barnes said Bush’s campaign is on its last legs after a poor showing in the third Republican debate.

“The questions that have been asked so far in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media”.

Donald Trump and Ben Carson who are leading Republican candidates were under attack from the start of the debate.

Bush said he remains the Republican whom Democrats fear most, “because I have a proven record of success”, an apparent knock against outsiders Trump, Carson and former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina.

“I’m proud of our candidates for standing up to a pretty hostile environment”, Priebus said.

Carson said Thursday he thought Cruz’s criticism of the moderators drew attention to what numerous candidates on the stage saw as a problem. (Perhaps.) Did he expect for Trump to raise questions Carson’s faith again, as the Donald did last week in Iowa? Gov. John Kasich, R-Ohio, takes 3 percent while U.S. Sen. If you were to ask Hillary’s camp to pick between Rubio and Cruz, I bet they would say Cruz without hesitation. But Marco, when you signed up for this, this is a six-year term.

Rubio responded to Bush by saying many White House hopefuls – including John McCain – had missed Senate votes as they focused on the presidential race.

“They’re not walking away”, Bush said. While Cruz knows his stuff he tends to talk at people and does so in a way that comes off as unnatural.

Cooper also said that there are “many kinds of biases”, to which CNN Senior Media Correspondent Brian Stelter argued that the handling of the CNBC debate was due to “conflict bias”. Chris Christie even told Harwood he was “rude”.

“I’m really hoping that the lesson of (Wednesday) night’s debate is that the Milwaukee debate will be about what people at home care about – not what the beltway media cares about”, said Mordecai Lee, UW-Milwaukee professor.

Carson fared alright in the debate, although he was not as prominent a presence as he was in the first two debates of the season.
