The fundraiser began simultaneously with the debate of the top seven Republican presidential candidates.

But just days before Iowa’s leadoff caucuses, there were none of the breakout moments that have sometimes characterized the more colorful debates featuring Trump, battling Cruz for first place in the 2016 primary season’s opening contest.

He said he was confident of taking New Hampshire and many other contests down the road.

Trump’s absence put the spotlight on Cruz, who is challenging for the lead in Iowa, as well as on Florida Sen.

Donald Trump on Friday called Texas Sen.

The seventh Republican presidential debate – and the first one without drawing card Donald Trump – was seen by 12.5 million viewers on Fox News Channel. Ted Cruz defended his authenticity and Marco Rubio faced pointed questions on immigration.

Trust is the cornerstone of this fiery conservative’s campaign, which may live or die with his ability to convince voters in Iowa and across the nation that he’s the most consistent and trustworthy among the pack of White House hopefuls.

That may be true, but Iowa voters will decide in four days whether Trump hurt his chances in the 2016 race simply to prove a point. Marco Rubio is tearing at the fabric of Cruz’s message. “Frustration should cause you to go to the caucus on Monday”, Rubio said.

“If youre not going to vote for Trump, don’t vote”.

I honored my commitments, and as president, I will honor every commitment that I make to the men and women of this country.

With that, he tried to set expectations so that if Rubio finishes better than third, it can be proclaimed a great performance and if Cruz doesn’t win, it will be seen as a great failure. “The stakes are too high for us to be burned again”.

Iowa’s secretary of state, Paul Pate, issued a statement calling the flier “misleading” and a “false representation of an official act”. The ad, without naming him, also says she would “build on Obamacare”, not start over, and stand up to the gun lobby, “not protect it”, all swipes at the senator.

Both camps said the agreement was not final and that Democratic National Committee had yet to sign off. The DNC did not immediately comment on the development, first reported by BuzzFeed. “Voters want someone they can trust”. Trump was later presented with a ring from a veterans group representing the number of veterans who commit suicide after returning home. In Washington, the Texas senator is often accused of being an ideological purist to a fault. He favored a similar approach last fall in the fight to fund Planned Parenthood, but was rebuked by his party leaders still angry about his guidance two years earlier. Millions of conservatives and independents believe it was the Republican policies of the recent past that also failed America.

“And the audience was clearly behind debate spectator Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and not Cruz on ethanol policy”, said Obradovich.

In October, speaking of military spending, he said, “We can do it for a lot less”.

Paul – once an undercard debate-skipper himself and facing the potential for exclusion from ABC News’ debate before the New Hampshire primary – had a good night showcasing his libertarian leanings. “But it’s a falseness, and that’s an authenticity problem”. Question: What would happen if Donald Trump didn’t take part? “Pretty soon”, he says of Democrats’ plans, “you won’t be able to get guns”.

The candidates largely sidestepped direct confrontations with each other, focusing some of their most pointed attacks on Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. “Caucus for Cruz to undo Obama’s damage”.

“The bigger we can win by, the bigger the mandate, the more we can do”, he said. “He’s more conservative than the other candidates”.
