Republican Hawk Lindsey Graham Drops 2016 Bid
“I’m suspending my campaign but never my commitment to achieving security through strength”, Graham said in a message on his campaign website.

He becomes the fourth GOP candidate to drop out of the crowded field, which continues to be led in national opinion surveys by property tycoon Donald Trump.
Still Mr. Graham’s campaign never gained traction. “I believe we have run a campaign you can be proud of”. His solution to gridlock in Washington: “We’re going to drink more”.
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC campaigned in the Granite State more than any other candidate since January 1, 2015.
The Post and Courier newspaper in Charleston, S.C. reported today that Graham’s biggest hurdle was not making it to the top tier of televised debates and that as a result, his poll numbers remained low.
He’s a respected senator from an early primary state with obvious smarts and the kind of deep familiarity with national security policy that allows him to make specific proposals for fighting the Islamic State, while most of his rivals offer vague ideas (“carpet bombing”) that reveal their ignorance. Monday was the last day SC allowed candidates to remove their names from the February 20 ballot.
Graham’s exit is expected to cause a realignment of GOP support in the Palmetto State.
“Let’s see where the fundraising goes”, added Dawson.
Graham had in recent weeks been Trump’s antagonizer in chief, criticizing the mogul and Texas Sen. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s (R) campaign said that it would have an update on potential supporters who’d previously backed Graham “soon”.
Graham, an early and staunch advocate of using USA ground troops against Islamic State, said his long-shot campaign had made headway in influencing the party’s debate on the conflict.
A well-timed Graham endorsement – just after the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary – could be enough to crown a leading “moderate lane” Republican.
Graham’s parting plea echoes what prominent Republicans and conservatives have been saying for months as Trump’s dominance and that of other outsiders have left the GOP establishment rattled and split among several candidates.
However, he did warn Trump to “watch what you say” about the Middle East and Muslims, as “a lot of men and women are at risk overseas”. He also announced his withdrawal in a YouTube video. Moreover, there’s now more a chance that the Party will nominate someone worse than Graham – more liberal, vastly less knowledgeable, and, quite possibly, an authoritarian at heart.

A protege of another Senate maverick, John McCain of Arizona, the Republican party’s 2008 presidential nominee, Graham has taken similarly iconoclastic positions within his party.
