“It left a lot of people without the opportunity for healthcare, because Texas chose not to expand Medicaid”, he said.

“I don’t think it’s something that people think of as something that they might need”, Hughes said of long-term care. Because Medicaid primarily pays for medical treatment for the poor and disabled, many people don’t realize money from the program goes toward long-term care for people whose life savings have run out. “By the time the two years was up, I had run up between $70,000 and $100,000 in hospital bills”.

In general, if you are younger, healthier, or wealthier-because all of the payment side, if you will-how the ACA was financed, all of those are going to go away and most of those were relatively small taxes on wealthier people. Congress should be reducing skyrocketing health care and prescription drug costs, especially for older Americans.

There are many parts of this legislation that are concerning and will remove programs that are now in effect. the areas relating to proposed changes in tax policy, financial help for lower income individuals and families, and termination of the expanded Medicaid program are the most concerning.
