Republican healthcare bill would harm state finances: Moody’s

“It left a lot of people without the opportunity for healthcare, because Texas chose not to expand Medicaid”, he said.

“I don’t think it’s something that people think of as something that they might need”, Hughes said of long-term care. Because Medicaid primarily pays for medical treatment for the poor and disabled, many people don’t realize money from the program goes toward long-term care for people whose life savings have run out. “By the time the two years was up, I had run up between $70,000 and $100,000 in hospital bills”.

“Under this plan, millions of Californians in public and private coverage will lose their coverage and care”, said Anthony Wright, executive director, Health Access California, the statewide health care consumer advocacy coalition.

He racked up those medical bills in 2007. It will hit people without employer-based coverage and with pre-existing conditions the hardest.

“We have one opportunity to answer the health care crisis the American people are facing”, the Republican congressman said. “Some people would still come to the clinic on a sliding charge and pay what they can, but some will stop going to the doctor, or go to emergency rooms – and if that happens everyone loses”. The GOP plan would fix this by creating state pools (federally subsidized?) to provide insurance for that group. That’s less than half of what Bentlage is getting now under the ACA.

In general, if you are younger, healthier, or wealthier-because all of the payment side, if you will-how the ACA was financed, all of those are going to go away and most of those were relatively small taxes on wealthier people. Congress should be reducing skyrocketing health care and prescription drug costs, especially for older Americans.

“What we have learned in this process is that the Republicans aren’t really interested in trying to address problems in the health insurance market”, Hernández said. “This bill would take it up to five times, plus the tax-break portion of this lowers the amount that people 50 to 64 are now receiving”. An additional 10 million Americans now have health coverage for the first time under the expansion of Medicaid in 31 states and the District of Columbia – millions of whom would no longer be covered under Trumpcare.

There are many parts of this legislation that are concerning and will remove programs that are now in effect. the areas relating to proposed changes in tax policy, financial help for lower income individuals and families, and termination of the expanded Medicaid program are the most concerning.
