Republican leaders could be nearing Trump breaking point

More than 70 Republicans have signed a letter to the party’s National Committee head urging him to stop helping Donald Trump’s campaign.

She’s reportedly throwing her hat in the ring to replace Reince Priebus as chair of the Republican National Committee, according to Fox News.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump speaks during a campaign event in Fairfield, Connecticut, on Saturday.

In an interview with Fox News Channel’s The O’Reilly Factor Thursday night, Trump was asked about a Time report that the RNC was considering shifting focus to congressional races following a hard couple of weeks for the Republican nominee.

“We, meaning we Republicans, have 24 members up”, he said.

Donald Trump was officially named the Republican presidential nominee during July’s Republican National Convention-but some party leaders are still not on board with his candidacy.

Mr Trump this past week stuck by a patently false claim that US President Barack Obama founded the Islamic State group. We win Pennsylvania, we’re going to win it. “There is no evidence that Trump has done that or that he has much of a ground game to begin with”.

Among those whose names are attached to the letter are former Senator Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire, former Congressman Chris Shays of Connecticut, Tom Coleman of Missouri and Vin Weber of Minnesota.

Yet on Thursday, Trump was reduced to citing a poll that actually showed him a few points behind Clinton and arguing the race between them was close.

“Believe me, a vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton is easy for me”.

An average of polls collated by Real Clear Politics now places Mr Trump anywhere up to ten points behind of Ms Clinton.

A lot of Republicans now on Capitol Hill and elsewhere, they’re saying, if Trump is going to lose the general election, in our view, maybe it’s time to walk away, walk away in a full way, don’t even have money going from major donors to the nominee, put it to those down-ballot race that are more vulnerable.

“I think people that really want to vote, they’re gonna just get up and they’re going to get out and they’re going to vote for Trump and we’re going to make America great again”, he added. Asked specifically about US citizens, Trump said he didn’t like that President Barack Obama and others wanted to try them in traditional courts rather than military commissions at Guantanamo Bay. The AP reported that Republicans are already cooking up a plan to dump Trump and instead focus on states that don’t have top-tier Senate races in a bid to hold on to their Senate majority.

Priebus pointed out that if GOP senators don’t win reelection, the outcome will be worse for Trump because his administration would have to deal with a Democratic Senate.

While Priebus was commenting on Clinton, Trump’s crowd chanted, “Lock her up”.
