Republicans and families of war dead slam Trumps attacks on Muslim family

The Council on American-Islamic Relations launched a social media campaign under the hashtag #CanYouHearUsNow following Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump’s slur towards the Muslim-American mother of a fallen US Army Captain, Humayun Khan.

Khizr Khan, whose speech at the Democratic National Convention about his slain son has garnered admiration from Democrats and some Republicans, but ire from Donald Trump, says the candidate needs to have “patience and tolerance for criticism”.

Khizr Khan, the father of Army Capt. Humayun Khan, spoke at the Democratic National Convention last week and criticized Trump.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims – 1.6 billion members of an entire religion – from entering the U.S.

Trump tweeted Monday that “Mr. Khan, who does not know me, viciously attacked me from the stage of the DNC and is now all over T.V. doing the same”.

“Respect a family who’s lost a son for the country”, said Chitra Raman of Dallas.

“I just felt that it was very insensitive”, Michael Madecky said. “When you say your job building buildings is akin to our sacrifice, you are attacking our sacrifice”.

“Mr. Trump created the opening in our conservative movement for the Democrats to drive into that and even after that, his back and forth is an embarrassment”, said Jasser. “These are among the most dishonest people you will ever, ever meet”, Trump said in Harrisburg, Pa., on Monday. And she would say, ‘No, you’re not going to say this. “I hope Americans understand that the remarks do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers, or candidates”.

Ward took a jab at her opponent who Monday released a scathing statement against Trump’s treatment of the Kahn’s but when asked if he’d still support Trump, McCain’s answer was yes. She subsequently did grant interviews to MSNBC and other outlets, although this didn’t stop Trump from suggesting that her husband wouldn’t allow her to talk publicly.

“The issue here is not one of the Khan family’s patriotism or sacrifice – that is indisputable – it is about stopping the encroachment of radical Islam”, Rep. Diane Black of Gallatin said.

“That was the reason to bring out the constitution, to show him that we are all equal under the eyes of the creator and this country”, Khan said. Khan asked Trump from the stage.

In the 13 months since he descended an escalator to announce his bid for The White House, Donald Trump has managed to offend Mexicans, Muslims, Jews, veterans, African-Americans, women and the disabled.

Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania said, “The Khan family, like all Americans who lose loved ones in the defense of our country, deserve our gratitude and honor”. These are supposed to be their talking points, not some progressive Democratic president’s.
