Republicans in Congress struggle with Trump

House Minority Leaders Nancy Pelosi took a swing at Republican House speaker Paul Ryan with an Onion-style press release, chiding him for canceling a Wednesday press conference amid controversy over Donald Trump, The Hill reports. “Claiming a person can’t do their job because of their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist comment”.

TRUMP: No. I don’t think so at all.

After a day full of Republican leaders lambasting Trump in the media, the off-the-cuff billionaire chose to straighten up a bit and read an uncharacteristically refined thank you speech – directly from a teleprompter.

“I felt it was an important time somehow, so I thought I wanted to give a very detailed oriented speech”, Trump said.

The presidential hopeful cites the fact that the judge has Mexican heritage and he wants to build a wall between Mexico and the United States.

He asserted in an interview published last week that Curiel has “an absolute conflict” of interest because of his “Mexican heritage” and because he is a member of a Mexican-American lawyers association.

And this – this issue, though, uh, with the judge has – has caused some in your party, Senator, of course, to – to question Donald Trump in ways he has not been questioned before.

Scott Jennings, a former adviser to McConnell and President George W. Bush says that McConnell’s comments about Trump show that he is trying to make sure the election doesn’t cause the party “serious problems” this year and down the road. But Trump also reached out to Bernie Sanders supporters in hopes they will abandon Democrats once Hillary Clinton secures the nomination. “There is no place for racism in the GOP, or this country”.

To call Judge Curiel biased is, on its face, completely preposterous. “Americans need to see more vision and less trash talk”. The complaint, which Trump has doubled down on, was widely criticized and even prominent Republicans condemned the statement as racist.

“But whether he can learn anything or not, only time will tell about that”.

“I understand the responsibility of carrying the mantle”, Trump said on a night he was expected to win California and four other GOP primaries. “Well, if he hasn’t blown up, he came as close as he can to blowing up without blowing up”, Langone said, adding Trump was “100 percent wrong” to make those “destructive” and “divisive” comments.

“I was disappointed and surprised”, he said Wednesday morning at Trump Tower in NY.
