Republicans Support for Trump has Dropped by 12 Percentage Points
If frontrunner Donald Trump or now surging Ted Cruz gets the 2016 Republican presidential nod, it may have a odd sort of bipartisan effect, according to Daily Beast pundit Michael Tomasky. “If he wins Iowa and New Hampshire, how do they stop him?” The national polls still have Trump as the clear front-runner.

To test the nativism in Trump’s populist appeal, an Ipsos poll in September found that 45 percent of Democrats “don’t identify with what America has become”, compared to a thundering 72 percent of Republicans.
But less than three months later, that agreement suddenly seems tenuous. Carson, who delivers his conservatism in more soothing tones, sounded uncertain and lost some of his support. And John Kasich’s super-PAC is buying $2.5 million in ads attacking Trump for his inflammatory comments. When interviewer George Stephanopoulos pointed out that there was no video and that local police said such celebrations never happened, Trump simply reiterated his claims. “It will be very interesting”. Horn noted that this was not the first time she criticized Trump.
There have been repeated moments when Trump said something outrageous and there were predictions that this is the beginning of the end of Trump, and then he does better.
I’m not afraid of Donald Trump. “And that’s caught a lot of people by surprise”, Wrenn said. I’ve heard some say they’re racist. “And what you have to keep in mind: Trump is somebody until very recently who had no great allegiance to the Republican party. He doesn’t have any real vested interest in abiding by its will”. But I don’t know how much more strongly the Republican Party, and frankly the entire media, could be sending that signal.

The headline on Pew’s report was that only 19 percent of Americans say they can trust the federal government most of the time, one of the lowest levels in half a century.
Back in Myrtle Beach, Trump denounced the media for focusing on the protesters rather than his popularity at campaign appearances. According to the RealClearPolitics rolling average of major surveys, he’s now the choice of 27.7 percent of Republican voters – nearly eight percentage points up on second-place Ben Carson. Now, there’s growing concern among Republicans in North Carolina and nationwide that his comments are hurting the party’s image – and its ability to attract moderate and independent voters.

“The reality is: It would be Republicans’ worst nightmare”, she said.
