Mulcair pointed to Trump’s pledge to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States and to build a wall along the Mexican border to crack down on illegal immigration.

The meetings are aimed at beginning “a discussion about the kind of Republican principles and ideas that can win the support of the American people this November”, Ryan’s political office said in a statement.

Gardner noted four “critical” issues on which Trump and the GOP must agree: “Less government, more freedom, strong national defense”.

The House Speaker on Thursday said he was not ready to back the party’s new standard-bearer. The speaker and Trump will hold a separate meeting with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.

Making his first remarks on the Republican race since Mr Trump emerged as the presumptive nominee, Mr Obama told the reporters that deeper reporting of the billionaire and his positions had now become paramount, implicitly criticising them for have fallen short thus far.

“The voters of our country have turned out in record numbers to support Trump”. The presumptive nominee said Friday he was surprised by Ryan’s stance. “This is America. If both choices stink, we reject them and go bigger”, Sasse said.

Ryan has made a point to be seen working in tandem with Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, barnstorming California with him in early March, making stops in several cities over 72 hours to raise money for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
