The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said they have been texting Fountain’s wife and climbing partner, 29-year-old Alison Fountain.
Linn and Marion County deputies were working late Sunday on a search for two hikers on Mt. Jefferson.
Once the searchers are near the climbers, a Coast Guard helicopter will arrive and fly one of the rescue teams into the climbers’ area. Ten additional rescue climbers were flown in to assist rescuers at the scene before dawn Monday.
Rescue efforts began Sunday after 32-year-old Thomas Fountain fell into a crevasse while climbing with his wife.
The terrain was described as hard but the climbers were reportedly experienced.
Preliminary information indicates that two climbers were headed up Oregon’s second tallest mountain when one became injured.
The Fountains’ vehicle was located at a trailhead in Marion County.
Rescuers said they will not be able to reach the climbers until around 8 a.m.
