O2 must have known before 9PM last night that many of its customers would not be getting their device, why wait until their phone lines are closed to tell them?

Apple’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models entered the Chinese market on Friday with pre-orders of the 7 Plus, and the iPhone 7 in jet-black color, already sold out. Some of those who wanted the iPhone 7 Plus will eventually settle for the iPhone 7, while others who wanted the iPhone 7 anyway will not be affected by this issue if they were shooting for the other color options aside from Jet Black.

One customer who got in line early was disappointed that the jet black iPhone 7 had sold out to pre-orders.

The company says its telling its customers the phones will be in short supply. That was the whole point of waiting in line.

Rose Gold accounted for 15% of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus orders, with Gold handsets coming in at 9%, and Silver at 8%.

Apple fans queueing outside its flagship store in Covent Garden this morning have expressed their preference for the iPhone 7 over the iPhone 7 Plus.

“Awesome”, Ryerson student Reuben Kiblitsky said as he got his hands on two new matte black iPhones and an Apple Watch. But this year demand was so far ahead of supply that Apple asked people to book their slots to pick a phone up online – meaning that getting to the queue early didn’t mean that you’d necessarily be able to get your hands on a phone. Apple fans in Sydney, Australia, reported that there were no iPhone 7 Plus models available without pre-ordering. Both are also semi-water-resistant after eliminating the headphone jack, allowing users to listen with EarPods through the Lightning connector (instead of a 3.5 mm jack) and an adapter for standard headphones, or purchase wireless AirPods beginning next month.

The data is based on responses from 32,000 customers from the firm’s panel, and appears to show that the iPhone 7 Plus’ dual camera setup is an attractive option for consumers.
