Residents evacuated as large wildfire threatens homes in Northern California

Strike teams from Cal Fire and Yolo and Contra Costa counties are assisting Vacaville Fire crews.

The wildfire that has burned more than 320 acres and is threatening homes, though no structures have burned yet.

A crew of at least 130 firefighters worked throughout the night to battle the blaze that could have been started by fireworks.

Vacaville spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said the fire, which began Saturday, was exacerbated by dry conditions and gusts of winds that reached 40 miles per hour, the Associated Press reported.

The vegetation fire broke out near Pena Adobe Park, burning 50-60 acres as of 11 p.m. on Saturday night. Neighborhood areas closed included Skyview Place, Ariquipa, El Matador Mobile Home Park, Hidden Oaks, Terrace Court, Los Robles, Black Oak Court, Red Oak Court, Atherton Court, Selby Court, and Menlo Court.

KCRA-TV reports (http://apne.ws/1fd1gw5 ) that about 100 people have been evacuated in Vacaville. Streets along California Drive were also closed. The Woodland crew was released early Sunday morning and back in the city by around 9:15 a.m. On Sunday, Lagoon Valley Park will be closed to the public while fire crews put out hot spots and investigators try to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Mazzaferro says the fire could have been started by fireworks.

In addition, no structures were damaged and no injuries reported, city officials added.
