Respectful McGregor calls Diaz ‘a hell of a competitor’
This was a rematch of a UFC 196 back in March, where Diaz was able to hand McGregor his first loss by beating him in 2 rounds.

Get ready for a fight for the ages.
Conor McGregor has praised his opponoent Nate Diaz after defeating the Californian in their rematch at UFC 202 in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Conor McGregor has made an unprecedented amount of money in a relatively short time with the UFC.
And like his fallen foe, the 28-year-old will not be satisfied until the rivalry is extended to a third, decisive, showdown.
While we don’t know when or who McGregor will square off with next, there are a couple of scenarios we can dissect. However, the feisty Irishman thinks there is no need to fight Aldo since he knocked him out in their previous meeting. McGregor isn’t expected to stay at 170 pounds. But White is holding his ground and reminds McGregor of his obligations at the 145-pound weight class.
“I’ve been a lightweight the whole time”, Diaz said.
With Diaz’s leg bruised and his face bloodied, he sensed McGregor tiring in the middle rounds and pushed him backwards in scenes reminiscent of their first fight. “But right now I don’t know what’s next”. However, if he decides to vacate the title and go up to 155 all bets are off and we could see him challenge Eddie Alvarez or whoever holds the lightweight title later this year.
Said White, “If I was Conor, I’d defend my title”. McGregor and Diaz both alluded to it, and McGregor didn’t mention defending his featherweight title nor did he mention Floyd Mayweather Jr or anything like that.
When asked if a third bout with Diaz would be next on his schedule, McGregor said: “Probably not”.
UFC 205 is coming to New York City in November.
“If you want this trilogy, it’s on my terms”, he said after the win. That question doesn’t need to be answered.

But for now, nothing is known. “You won’t see me until then”. Did you really think that was how it was going to play out? “S*** is about to hit the fan here”. But the Gracie fighter, when speaking to Submission Radio after UFC 202, definitely didn’t go overboard with it. But, again, that’s never happening. That’s a conversation for another day.
