Respite for Everton but fans call for Martinez to go

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been given some breathing room after his side’s winless run stopped after seven games thanks to a 2-1 triumph over Bournemouth at Goodison Park on Saturday.

I fancy the Toffees to snap out of their malaise and win this weekend against a Bournemouth side who are understandably playing as though they have one eye on their summer holidays.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe on reports linking him with Everton: “I don’t think I have to reaffirm my commitment here every week, which seems to be a regular pattern”.

“I always encourage huge expectations and as a football club we have to drive to challenge for silverware and challenge for the top four”. So that value is in the squad, so it’s down to us that, whatever happens after every window, the squad gets stronger and we have a better team.

According to the Telegraph, Martinez could be dismissed next week if the meeting of the directors and Saturday’s Premier League game against Bournemouth go badly for Martinez.

It prompted a rise in tension levels at Goodison Park but the introduction of leading scorer Romelu Lukaku on the hour, replacing the ineffectual £13.5million January signing Oumar Niasse, marked a turning point.

“I understand their passion”.

“How we’ve conceded two goals is a hard one to work out from our perspective because I thought we looked solid defensively, an improvement on recent weeks, but we’ve still ended up conceding two”. We have asked the players for the same attitude and professionalism they have given us throughout the season.

As for the Everton fans enough is enough and they want the Spaniard to leave the club as soon as possible and are hopeful the club can persuade a big name manager to take control of the club.

Defender Leighton Baines secured Everton’s first home league win since early February with his first goal since November 2014 after Marc Pugh had cancelled out Tom Cleverley’s goal inside the opening 10 minutes.
