Backers of a marijuana legalization effort in Ohio say they are planning a statewide bus tour to promote the ballot issue ahead of the fall election.
Organizers said the bus will be visiting all 88 counties in Ohio to educate voters about the amendment and the industry that will be coming with it. Individuals would be able to grow up four flowering plants piece. It creates a network of 10 authorized growing locations around the state (including one in Lorain), some that have already attracted private investors, and lays out a regulatory and taxation scheme for cannabis.
Critics of the proposed amendment launched a campaign Monday aimed at defeating the issue this fall.
“It’s time for marijuana legalization in Ohio, and voters will have the opportunity to make it happen this November – we couldn’t be more excited”, said ResponsibleOhio spokesman Ian James after Husted’s announcement. Officials say the anti-monopoly measure is written in a way to trump the marijuana amendment.
There are plenty of physicians, researchers and patients-including medical marijuana refugees from Ohio-who support marijuana for medical purposes, and they’re sick of the status quo.
The ResponsibleOhio PAC plans to spend at least $20 million on its pro-pot campaign.
