Whatever message the billboard was meant to send, it was not the one we need now.
“We put up what we thought was a cute play on words, which we do commonly here at the restaurant”, he said.
An Italian restaurant in New Mexico has been slammed over a controversial message written on a sign outside the Albuquerque eatery..
“We’re now offering a special seared ahi tuna with a black olive tapenade”, Camuglia told FoxNews.com.
“We thought it was a cute play on words that would draw somebody to try our black olives”, he said.
The Washington Post reports, however, that it hasn’t been all bad news for the restaurant, which has received some support as well in the incident.
On Friday, Camuglia took down the sign due to the continuous barrage of Internet harassment but he thanked the Albuquerque community and his customers for boosting his business in a Facebook post.
“Many nowadays would contend that society has changed for the worse, but our experience this week has proven the opposite”. “We didn’t think anybody would be offended by that”. We have encountered so many quality people of character; salt of the earth and the bedrock of America. Black olives on the salad, “I’ll have extra black olives on my sausage sandwich”-we’ve had to order more from our supplier”.
The owner and crew say people are now ordering black olives on every type of dish, and some are asking for “double black olives” as a “unique way to show solidarity”. “. We nearly ran out [of Black Olives] and ordered more”.
“We have served Albuquerque for over 40 years and look forward to the next 40”. Brown’s death led to weeks of protests, sometimes violent, in the St. Louis suburb, and was one of the first major events associated with the Black Lives Matter movement.
One user commented on the statement accusing the company of deleting negative comments from the page and added: “I really think that an apology on this page, pinned, would go a long way”.

It’s probably a matter of time before the restaurant introduces new specials, such as the “All Olives Matter” appetizer (it’s just olives).
