Restaurant worker diagnosed with Hepatitis A
Eisner encourages anyone who ate or drank at the restaurant between July 16 and August 6 to contact their physician about getting a vaccine.

The unnamed Wayne County resident works at Social Kitchen and Bar at 225 East Maple in Birmingham, officials said.
Time from exposure to onset of illness (incubation period) is typically 15 to 50 days. The hepatitis A and immune globulin vaccinations available for this virus are only good if given within two weeks of exposure, so anyone who visited the restaurant before July 28, 2016 is no longer eligible for the shot. The hepatitis A vaccination may be available at some major pharmacies in MI; otherwise, contact your healthcare provider. An employee at Social Kitchen and Bar was diagnosed with Hepatitis A on August 6. “Fortunately, no one else has reported any illness”, the email states. “The restaurant is 100 percent compliant with Health Department regulations and will continue to maintain the highest food safety standards”.
Doctors provide us with information on how the disease manifests itself: abdominal pain, fever, yellowish skin, dark urine. (People who have received two doses of the vaccine do not need to be immunized again.) Health officials in Oakland County are also reaching out to employees of the restaurant to recommend treatment options.
Handwashing with soap and warm water after using the bathroom and before preparing food can help prevent the spread of Hepatitis A. Appropriately cooking foods can also help prevent infection.
The Oakland County Health Division is now reaching out to employees and recommending preventative treatments including vaccines, thoroughly cooking food, and washing hands frequently. Individuals who suspect they may have developed symptoms should stay home and contact their doctor.
Call your local health department if you have any questions or require assistance in locating Hepatitis A vaccine or IG.

“Hepatitis A is a liver disease typically spread when a person ingests fecal matter – even in microscopic amounts – from contact with objects, food, or drinks contaminated by the feces, or stool, of an infected person”, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports.
