Restricted free agent running back Anderson visits Dolphins

We’ll see if the Broncos match the Dolphins’ offer. There’s a chance that Anderson might actually be just as productive for Miami as Miller was.

The Dolphins obviously covet Anderson, as they need a replacement for Lamar Miller after Miller signed with Houston.

Broncos restricted free agent CJ Anderson, who measures in at 5-foot-8, 224 pounds, fits that mold and the Patriots have reportedly been in the mix for his services. Anyone the Dolphins sign will be in an RBBC with sophomore rusher Jay Ajayi.

A three-year veteran, Anderson rushed for 720 yards last year for the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos.

Two of the marquee free agents running backs won’t come to Foxboro. The second-round pick the Broncos could have gotten as compensation for Anderson leaving would be pretty handy right now for a team that’s drowning in free agency.

Jets: Two people familiar with the decisions say the team has agreed in principle to sign free-agent running backs Matt Forte and Khiry Robinson, and re-sign running back Bilal Powell. New Dolphins head coach Adam Gase wants to get the team running the ball and knows Anderson.

That leaves the Broncos five days to match the contract after general manager John Elway gave Anderson a low tender. If Ohio State Buckeyes star Ezekiel Elliott or Alabama Crimson Tide star Derrick Henry aren’t off the board when the Dolphins choose with the eight overall selection, one of them could be wearing the teal and orange in their first season in the NFL.
