Restrictions on alcohol sales considered after fan assault at Levi’s Stadium
Rather than banning the sale of alcohol during the second half of 49ers games, the Santa Clara City Council might want to look at actually enforcing by-laws that prohibit the consumption of alcohol in parkinglots before games, or increasing the fines for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and assault in and around Levi’s Stadium.

The attack has led some members of the Santa Clara City Council to question whether they should call for alcohol sales to end at halftime during 49ers games. But he was not certain that cutting off sales at halftime will resolve the issue because alcohol is consumed at pre-game tailgating parties before fans even enter the stadium.
There has been increased scrutiny on alcohol problems at games after various incidents involving intoxicated fans, such as fights or the 2013 death of a 30-year-old man who fell from a walkway at Candlestick Park.
“We don’t want a Bryan Stow incident here”, said Gillmor, referring to the Giants fan who was severely beaten outside Dodger Stadium in 2011.
It happened in the parking lot of Levi’s Stadium after the Niners home opener. Cops say the disturbing video helped helm them catch the alleged bad guys.
Both the 35-year-old victim and the security officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.
“This represents less than one half of one percent people that visit the stadium”.
KARE 11 reports that everyone involved in the altercation left the area by the time police arrived, but investigators were able to use information on social media combined with ticketing information to identify the suspects and a teenage girl who was with them.
The San Francisco Chronicle (http://tinyurl.com/q99aamj) reported Tuesday the assault allegedly occurred after an exchange of heated sports banter. “We are having one of St. Francis’s followers here in the country this week”, said Santa Clara City Councilwoman Teresa O’Neill. Witnesses said he appeared to have been drinking.

“We could staff three to five times more officers, and it would still not prevent the fights we’ve had”, Sellers said.
