Players can win an estimated $500 million in the largest Powerball jackpot in almost a year.

Wednesday night’s jackpot actually started at $40 million on November 7th and is the result of 17 drawings with no jackpot victor.
If you choose the $500 million annuity, it would be paid out over the next 29 years. That prize was shared by three winning players in North Carolina, Texas and Puerto Rico.
The largest-ever USA lottery jackpot payout was in March 2012, when $656 million was won in a Mega Millions drawing.
The Virginia Lottery said on Wednesday, it’s going to sell more than $900,000 Powerball tickets across the Commonwealth. While the big prize seems so far away, die-hard lottery players know all it takes is that one time for your numbers to hit.
Experts say the odds to win the lottery are roughly one in 292.2 million.
“It’s really high right now and just a chance, maybe a chance”, said Rosemarie Gabaldon.
“You can’t win if you don’t play”, said Jennifer Johnson. The cash value is $306 million. That’s the sixth-largest jackpot in North American history. If you don’t make the deadline, the Beaumont man says there’s no whining allowed.
With only hours left until the drawing, people rushed to stores such as New Twist in East Peoria Wednesday evening to purchase tickets.

Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states including the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin islands and Puerto Rico.
If there is no flawless ticket for an 18th straight drawing, the jackpot on the line Saturday would eclipse the game’s record amount of $590.5 million set in May 2013.
