Retired TSA dogs seeking new homes

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) uses dogs for their excellent noses in their bomb detection programs.

The dogs up for adoption range from two to ten years old and the breeds range from German shepherds to Labrador retrievers.

The dogs up for adoption are either retired of didn’t get through the explosives-detection training.

The TSA hounds tend to be very active, according to the agency, because they were selected for their elevated “drive”. And while a few are trained, others are not, the TSA said in a press release.

Also remember: most of TSA’s dogs have lived in kennels, not houses, and so may not be familiar with what typical home life is like. All have been spayed or neutered, she says.

There’s no adoption fee, but all prospective families must fill out an application and be approved.

There is no cost to adopt TSA canines.

Those who undergo the application process will have to travel to San Antonio, Texas to pick up their new dog. If you meet the requirements, photos and information will be provided via email.
