Review meeting discusses Pakistan bid to internationalise Kashmir

“There has been no firing incident from Pakistan”, Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakria told The Express Tribune hours after the Indian media claimed that Pakistani troops attacked Indian military posts at Uri.

The infiltration bids and the ceasefire violation come barely two days after four militants mounted a deadly terror attack at the Army’s 12 Infantry Brigade on the peripheries of Uri town in which 18 jawans were killed and over 20 more wounded on Sunday. Our soldiers returned the fire and kept vigil around to monitor any cross-border movement.

The sources said that there could be four to five militants hiding in the area.

Union Home Minister of India, Rajnath Singh issued a statement in which he alleged Pakistan of executing the terror attack and premier Narendra Modi, who since August 15, is promoting anti-Pakistan sentiments in Balochistan, followed suit. “Ten of them were killed”.

Indian army said on Monday that it will decide the time and place to respond to the Uri attack.

The two sides exchanged fire in village Latchipora of Uri sector in frontier Baramulla district, 125 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. The terrorist group was engaged in encounter by the 10 Battalion of the Dogra regiment of the Indian Army and a local army unit. Sources said a six-member NIA team, led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank officer, has started its probe after filing a First Information Report (FIR) in the terror attack case. However, the pilot did not suffer any injury and safely ejected out of the aircraft. As per the latest reports, air traffic operations have resumed at the airport.

He said that “the Prime Minister and Secretary Kerry expressed strong concern with recent violence in Kashmir – particularly the army base attack – and the need for all sides to reduce tensions”.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and army chief General Raheel Sharif had a telephonic conversation about Kashmir issue, prior to former’s speech at the UN General Assembly today.

“Pakistan has been continuously stabbing India in the back, be it Samba, Kathua, Gurdaspur, Udhampur, Pathankot and now Uri and we are tolerating all this without doing anything”, a protestor Pardeep Gupta said. He also stressed upon the need to coordinate the intelligence network of all agencies in the region so that prompt actions can be undertaken to defeat the nefarious designs of adversary.

Secretary Kerry appreciated the efforts of the armed forces of Pakistan, security institutions and police in rooting out terrorism and extremism.
