Rex Ryan, Bills hitting panic button after 0-2 start

The Jets had a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard rusher and two 100 yard receivers against the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills’ solution for their bad defensive performance Thursday night was to fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman on Friday. Sure, in the opener against Baltimore, Buffalo only mustered up seven points, but in their last game against the Jets, the Bills showed a big play ability and some offensive explosiveness putting up 31 points.

-PASSING OFFENSE: A-minus. Other than a disjointed first drive in which he had the ball stripped twice, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (24-of-34 for 374 yards and one touchdown) was sensational as he finally got the best of Rex Ryan.

Is this move akin to reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic? Even with the Bills leading the National Football League in rushing in 2015, there were rifts between the coaches and front office, with the passing game not what the GM wanted it to be, sources said. The Jets converted 8 of 13 third downs (62 percent) and the Bills were just 3 of 10.

Make no mistake – that streak is all but guaranteed to extend to 17 straight seasons now that the Bills have started the year 0-2 under coach Rex Ryan and Co.

The moment in question was running back Matt Forte’s 12-yard touchdown run with 4:02 remaining in the game.

Roman is a good coordinator but Ryan made this decision to go back to playing the way he knows how. Rob Ryan, Rex’s twin, is Buffalo’s defensive coordinator.

Lynn, 47, served as Ryan’s running backs coach with the Jets from 2009 to 2014 before joining Ryan in Buffalo last season. Roman, 44, was hired shortly after the Pegulas named Ryan their head coach in January 2015. Anthony Lynn is expected to take over as offensive coordinator.

In Thursday’s loss to New York, Taylor hooked-up with Marquise Goodwin for an 84 yard touchdown pass – the longest TD strike at home in Bills history.

Jets coach Todd Bowles says wide receiver Brandon Marshall’s left knee is “fine” and just “sore”, and he should be able to play in New York’s next game. On the 259th day of 2016, the Jets went to Orchard Park and saved their 2016 season – at least for now. He’s certainly not going to fire himself, and the Bills weren’t going to fire him just two games in. The team announced the move Friday afternoon. The coaching staff is going to need all that time to seriously assess the state of the team.
