Rex Ryan, Greg Roman divorce was long overdue

Roman could not be reached for comment Friday.

Under Roman’s guidance, Taylor had a fantastic 2015 season with 3,035 passing yards and 20 touchdowns in 14 games, and the Bills rewarded him with a long-term contract extension. Not to mention a comfy home game in the middle of the season against the Seattle Seahawks. You know it’s bad when the best pass break up for the Bills on Thursday came from a receiver trying to stop an interception.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Roman’s firing, adding the Bills will promote assistant head coach and running backs coach Anthony Lynn to be their new offensive coordinator.

The Jets showed resilience, too, in snapping a five-game skid against their AFC East rival and beating Rex Ryan, their former coach, for the first time since he was sacked in NY following the 2014 season.

The Bills struggled on offense in their season opener Sunday, gaining just 160 yards in a 10-7 loss to Baltimore. For the Jets they now have the mental advantage, in theory, they’ve done what they’re supposed to do. After all, despite the fact that Buffalo’s defense is a hot mess right now, Ryan’s not going to fire his own brother, who is coordinating the defense right now. We’re two games into the year and that seems like an unlikely end result, but it could be the only one that keeps the Bills from wholesale turnover. The team also can not dwell on the past two games, and will have to trust in each other and the coaching staff to try and find a way to start putting up some numbers on the win column. “I thought I was going to be fishing in my backyard in Florida”, said Marshall, whose left knee twisted awkwardly beneath him when cornerback Stephon Gilmore pulled him down by his facemask.

Roman did have ties with Rex Ryan, however.

Ryan called Lynn “an outstanding coach”, who has turned down opportunities to be an offensive coordinator in the past. Rex Ryan was the Ravens’ defensive coordinator.

“I appreciate Greg Roman and the job he did for us. I thought I was going to be fishing in my backyard in Florida”, the Jets’ star receiver said. “I’m excited for him in the future, and we’ll get to work on Monday and see how it pans out”.

It doesn’t, but it takes the heat off of head coach Rex Ryan for a week, who is very much in his last season with the team.

49ers fans can relate to Roman’s inept play-calling. Was he working from a different list of playmakers than the rest of us know about? I think we have a lot of talent on offense. He’s a smart guy, an “X” and ‘O’s guy, a former world champion as a player.
